- Matfen Village
Matfen is an attractive village located just to the north of
Hadrian's Wall and, about 20 miles west of Newcastle and 6 miles North of Corbridge. It was built as an estate village about 200 years, ago adjacent to Matfen Hall. The hall itself is a Grade 2 listed building constructed by Sir Edward Blackett in about 1830, on the site of an earlier 17th century house. It has been converted in recent times into a leading country house hotel, with golf course, spa, leisure centre and restaurants.
The village surrounds a village green which is itself bisected by a stream. There is a village hall, a church, a pub - the Black Bull - and a village shop. The village hall has recently been renovated and is available for bookings.
